I have lived in Melbourne all my life. And I love it. Before I go wandering the country I wanted to honour where I’m from.

I remember reading something years ago that if you visit a place for a short time you will probably see just about everything, visit for a period of time you’ll see most things and if you live somewhere you’ll see only a few things. That always stuck with me… I didn’t want to live in a place like Melbourne, with all kinds of interesting things going on, and never enjoy it. So I decided years ago to make the most of it.

One of my favourite events in a city that has thousands of them is the Melbourne Writers Festival. A collection of important ideas, brilliant people, interesting discussions, wide-ranging questions.

This years MWF has just finished. A taster of the sessions I went to: stories of moxie and guts from The Moth (from New York), misogyny and power struggles in Australian politics, the forgotten war in Australia (that our Indigenous peoples have never conceded), feminism as it is now, sex in the Arab world, the intergenerational war we are waging against our children to have what we want when we want it, the power of aphorisms, and what we can learn from indigenous cultures about childhood. I told you it was wide-ranging ;).

Here are some pics to give you a feel for it… Spring in Melbourne is a wonderful thing!
